Who owns mobile content?
Friday, September 14th, 2007Someone recently asked me if the carriers, the mobile phone manufacturers or the platform vendors own mobile content?? None of the above is my response! The best mobile content is coming from individuals and predominantly through the Internet. We have sites like YouTube providing a forum of expression for any video imaginable. We have millions of blogs providing outlets for creative writers. We have billions of web pages. Let us not forget about SMS phone-to-phone which is a primary means of mobile communication for many. In the enterprise, most of the mobile content is still coming from email. Instant Messaging is catching up but most business communication is still email-based. So, NO, the carriers, device makers and platform vendors do not own mobile content, the people on the Internet do! The challenge is making sure all that content is useful on a 2×2 inch micro screen!
