Google Phone? iPhone? Fat LG Chocolate? Blackberry? Yes, but is it functional?!
Wednesday, June 27th, 2007It seems that every day, we get yet another announcement about a new mobile phone. Now it looks like the Orange UK network may be the first to showcase the Google one http://gigaom.com/2006/12/17/google-phone/
Personally, I am not a gadget envy type. However, I love great cars that zoom. I think of the latest craze around mobile phones in the same way. The iPhone will be an incredible device. Similarly, I love my Blackberry Pearl which is sleek and most of all a good email device and phone. I especially like the fact that I use an email to mobile SMS service www.amikamobile.net that is intelligent enough to filter and condense content to really reduce emails that follow me while on the go.
If you take a look at Osterman’s latest study about email habits http://www.ostermanresearch.com/. A typical user receives 101 messages and sends 39 messages
Most users have decent spam control but typically 10 to 20 will get through.
Do you really want 81 emails that are over 250 words to clutter up the new gadget from Google or Apple? I say definitely NO!
Besides the gadgets being as sleek as cars, we need them to be great perfomers in terms of email. This is not going to happen unless we also focus on reducing the clutter on the gadget using some form of intelligent filtering and content reduction.
Bricks, comments or flowers are welcome. Just send them to me!
